Sunday Schedule - Rules and Formats

rules and Formats

📆 Schedule & Formats

You’ll find all match timings, and live results at:
👉 www.saffrons6s.co.uk – Sunday Schedule page (Scores will be updated on the website, as well as by the desk)
Please share with your teams, umpires and supporters! Note we are not expecting changes, but please be keep an eye out, your team will never have an earlier game, but schedules can change.

We’ve built each format to give teams as much hockey as possible:

🏆 U10’s Boys (7 teams)

  • League format (everyone plays everyone once) – 6 games each
  • 10min games, one way (no half time)
  • Winner  = top of the table
  • We are aware sometimes have back-to-back matches and sometimes 3 matches in a row, it is the challenge of scheduling. There is not much we can do about it, but the games are only 10mins, so we reckon the kids can manage.

🏆 U10’s Girls (4 teams)

  • Round Robin
  • 15-min games, one way (no half time)
  • Winner = top of the table

🏆 U13’s Boys (6 teams)

  • League format (everyone plays everyone once) – 5 games each
  • 12-minute games, one way (no half time)
  • Winner = top of the table

🏆 U13’s Girls (5 teams)

  • League format (everyone plays everyone once) – 4 games each
  • 15-minute games, one way (no half time)
  • Winner = top of the table

🕒 Games are centrally timed and will start on the hooter – we’ll go ahead even if teams aren’t ready, so be pitchside and prepared!

📜 Rules – Read Me!

We’ve kept things simple and fair:

  • Standard hockey rules apply
  • Short corners – No short corners for U10’s, a free hit outside the area.
    • U13’s  will play short corners (masks mandatory for U18s). 1 defending player to retreat to halfway line. If there is no keeper - NO short corners are played for either team and a free hit outside the D is awarded, it can’t go straight in. Coaches/helpers are allowed to help with masks/organisation.
  • Ball CAN be played off the central divider
  • Long corners to be taken from the halfway line
  • Teams may field 6 outfield players with no keeper, if they wish
  • Points: 3 for a win, 1 for a draw
  • Tiebreakers: Goal difference → goals scored → result between teams
  • If a team is late or not ready, the game will start without them – we’ve got a tight schedule to stick to! If all 4 teams are ready we will start ahead  of time.
  • Please – spectators should stay clear of goal areas at all times
  • Umpires – a lot of the games are covered by helpers and junior umpires.  However please be aware we may need some help, so if you have someone who  can blow a whistle for your game or someone else’s game, we would appreciate the help. There are spare whistles which we can give to those that have not brought their own whistle.

🛠 On the Day

  • Coaches’ check-in at the organiser's desk (in front of the barn) –collect tokens for BBQ + Squash
  • Gazebos & Chairs – welcome on grassy areas (not behind goals!), bring your      own shade/shelter… stay vigilant for stray hockey balls at all times!
  • Water available at the dugouts – bring refillable bottles
  • Changing rooms via Eastbourne Town FC (clubhouse ones are in use by cricketers).      We’ll direct you on the day.
  • First Aid based at the organiser’s desk all day. No, we won’t have sun      cream. Oh ok, we might.
  • Tournament Shop – bring any unwanted sticks, shoes, kit etc. to donate/swap – we are going to run a second hand, unwanted hockey shop, any money will go to the charity, so please bring down the old stick, shin pads, or anything you want to get rid of that someone else might want.
  • Joke Book – we have also written a family joke book. I say we, we have had      some help from all Eddie’s friends and family, Michael Rosen the author and Eddie’s dad has kindly written a lovely forward, they will be £7 on the day. If you have kids or you like dad jokes, this is the book for you.
  • Spectators welcome! The more the merrier (especially if they chuck some coins in the charity pot!). Please pay attention to the play and avoid watching from behind the goals.
  • Ice cream van, coffee hut and BBQ will be open to all on a paid service. Players will be able to redeem their voucher for their free BBQ. BBQ will be on from 12-4pm we have been told.
  • Presentations – please hang around if you can as we will do presentations at the end of each competition. We would also like to get a photo of all the teams in  the competition.
  • Cricket warning! One of the pitches is next to ours, so beware stray cricket balls as well as hockey ones
  • "Fore" - if the ball is heading out of the playing area, towards spectators or the cricket pitches, please shout "Fore". It is polite.
