Saturday Schedule & Rules/Formats

Rules and Formats - Adults

📆 Schedule & Formats

You’ll find all match timings, and live results at:
Please share with your teams, umpires and supporters!

We’ve built each format to give the most amount of hockey in the day:

🏆 Women’s Tournament (8 teams)

  • Two Groups of 4
  • 16-minute games, one way (no half time)
  • Follow by cross over matches and classification match (Final, etc)

🏆 Men’s T1 (10 teams)

  • 2 Groups of 5
  • 16-minute games, one way (no half time)
  • Followed by 1 cross over match, straight to a final, etc.

🏆 Men’s T2 (8 teams)

  • Two groups of 4 → group stage then cross-group playoffs
  • 16-minute games, one way (no half time)
  • Followed by cross over matches and classification matches (Final, etc)

🕒 Games are centrally timed and will start on the hooter – we’ll go ahead even if teams aren’t ready, so be pitchside and prepared!

📜 Rules – Read Me!

We’ve kept things simple and fair:

  • Standard hockey rules apply
  • Short corners - this year are to be replaced with a penalty stroke that must hit the back board to count.
  • Deliberate  time-wasting = 2 min sin-bin
  • Ball CAN be played off the central divider, play to continue.
  • Long corners to be taken from the halfway line
  • Teams may field 6 outfield players with no keeper, if they wish
  • Points: 3 for a win, 1 for a draw
  • Tiebreakers: Goal difference → goals scored → result between teams
  • If a team is late or not ready, the game will start without them – we’ve got a tight schedule to stick to!
  • Please – spectators should stay clear of goal areas at all times

🛠 On the Day

  • Captains check-in at the organiser's desk (in front of the barn) –collect tokens for BBQ + Jug
  • Gazebos & Chairs – welcome on grassy areas (not behind goals!), bring your own shade/shelter… stay vigilant for stray hockey balls at all times!
  • Water available at the dugouts – bring refillable bottles
  • Changing rooms via Eastbourne Town FC (clubhouse ones are in use by cricketers).      We’ll direct you on the day.
  • First  Aid based at the organiser’s desk all day. No, we won’t have sun cream. Oh ok, we might.
  • Tournament Shop – bring any unwanted sticks, shoes, kit etc. to donate/swap – we are going to run a second hand, unwanted hockey shop, any money will go to the charity, so please bring down the old stick, shin pads, or anything you want to get rid of that someone else might want.
  • Joke Book – we have also written a family joke book. I say we, we have had some help from all Eddie’s friends and family, Michael Rosen has kindly written a lovely forward, they will be £7 on the day. If you have kids or you like dad jokes, this is the book for you.
  • Spectators welcome! The more the merrier (especially if they chuck some coins in the charity pot!). Please pay attention to the play and avoid watching from behind the goals.
  • Cricket warning! One of the pitches is next to ours, so beware stray cricket balls as well as hockey ones.
  • "Fore" - if the ball is heading out of the playing area, towards spectators or the cricket pitches, please shout "Fore". It is polite.

That’s everything (for now)! We’re so looking forward to seeing you all for a brilliant weekend of hockey, sunshine, and fundraising.

Questions? Just shout.
